I've recently come back to EVE. While I'm brushing off the dust and getting reacquainted with the game , I've become confused about the general paradigm surrounding Salvaging techniques.
I've done some research to educate myself, but it is precisely this research that has confused me.
The most basic, open ended question is "what's the best ship for salvaging?", but this is not really a concern of mine. I have a Noctis already. I'm more concerned with the process and logistics of a salvage run with regards to what ship you're using.
I'm confused because it seems to me that common salvaging practices involve two different skill sets that can only be carried out by two different ships. > One ship fitted with Cloak & Probe Launcher to scan down mission runners > One ship fitted with Salvagers & Tractors to do the actual work.
My goal isn't to complain, but admittedly I am growing tired of jumping a few times to run a mission, bookmarking a wreck, jumping back to the station to turn in the mission, grab my other ship....jump back to the wreck, salvage, then jump back to the station. The Agent could send me anywhere. The site could be 2 jumps away, it could be 5 jumps away, and I have to juggle 2 ships in the process. One to run the mission, one to come back and salvage.
Besides running missions and salvaging wrecks made by me, I do enjoy scanning down other ships running missions. But even with that scenario, I need a scanning ship and another salvaging ship.
Looking at the star map, I filter it to see Number of wrecks in the last 24 hours. I always go for the higher, red systems of course. Say there's a system that's 4 jumps away that has a high number of ships destroyed. So I jump 4 times with my scanning ship, take a while to find the site, jump back 4 times to the station, grab my other salvaging ship, take that 4 jumps to the bookmarked wreck, then come back 4 jumps to the station to sell.
This cannot be how everyone does it, right?
1 - Does anyone fit a Noctis with a Cloak and Probe Launcher? 2 - Do destroyers have enough CPU & Power to handle a couple salvagers, Cloak, & Probe Launcher? 3 - Do you really utilize two different ships for the salvaging process? 4 - Finally, is there a ship that can handle a Cloak, Probe Launcher, Salvagers, and "decent" cargo capacity? An "all around, jack of all trades" kind of ship?
This going back and forth and juggling two different ships is really cutting into my enjoyment & time.
Take care, Kye
I use a thrasher to salvage. I can't bring myself to justify the price of a noctis in case I get ganked (compared to the price of a thrasher, at least). Bring a mobile depot and refit from 'scanning/exploring' to 'salvaging' in the field.
Just keep your salvagers in your cargo hold, drop your mobile depot in a safe spot after you are done scanning, refit using the depot and go salvage. I never actually leave a mobile depot up, since people can scan them down. Scoop the depot after you are done changing fits in the field. |
